Palace on Wheels grinds to a halt for April

Fri, Apr 15, 2016, 12:58 PM
The Palace on Wheels, India's most prestigious tourist train covering Rajasthan, came to a grinding halt in April for the firtst time since the introduction of the train in 1982.

Only 104 tourists are entertained by the luxury train covering, Udaipur, Jaisalmer and Jodhpur spread over 7 nights and 8 days.

The train ran all these years without a hitch. Even the economic downturn of 2008 did not stop the train. To travel in the train, one has to shell down Rs 2.5 lakh each.

For the April trip, however, there were no takers. As a result, for the first time the Palace on Wheels had to be cancelled. Even if there had been one-fourth of the capacity filled, the train would have been run. But there were not even 25 takers for this April, stated General Manager of the service Pradeep Bohra.

Bohra said the strategy has to be changed now to attract capacity passengers for the prestigious train, which is considered a tourist attraction. With the summer being so severe, the luxury offered is apparently no match. So the strategy has to be beat the summer in the Palace on Wheels.
