2000 NIT Srinagar students holding demo at Jantar-Mantar

Wed, Apr 13, 2016, 12:57 PM
The 2,000 National Institute of Technology students, who are considered non-locals by the Jammu and Kashmir administration, left Srinagar and arrived in Jantar-Mantar in New Delhi on Wednesday to protest against the highhandedness of the J&K police and the local students in the name of azadi.

The Jammu and Kashmir authorities, especially the Srinagar police, have thrown the education of the 2000 outstation students to the winds in the name of azadi of the local students.

The students by the hundreds arrived in Delhi with their bag and baggae on the pretext of going home and started demonstrations at Jantar-Mantar. They slept on the roads and at bus stations before reaching Jantar-Mantar.

Owing to the highhandedness of the Jammu and Kashmir administration, Chief Minister Mehbuba Mufti rushed to Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu's home on Wednesday to reassure the BJP-led NDA government that it would do everything for the return of the outstation students to NIT, Srinagar.

Some 200 NIT students belonging to the Telugu-speaking States are also among those demonstrating at Jantar Mantar. They said that the local NIT students of Srinagar raised slogans of azadi and Pakistan, as the India-West Indies match was in progress on March 31. This was chafed by the non-local students, and a clash ensued.

While so much is going on, curious that the Abdullahs, the Congress leaders, the leftists and the fellow-travellers are all silent on the Srinagar atrocities. Mum's the word!
