The United Nations would also be celebrating the 125th anniversary celebrations of one of the founders of the Indian constitution, Dr B.R. Ambekar, on April 13. It would be for the first time that the UN would be taking up such celebrations, Syed Akbaruddin, India's Permanent Representative to the UN, announced on Saturday.

Adbaruddin said it was necessary that the world should benefit from Dr Ambedkar's inspiring work in bringing about consciousness among the depressed classes, fighting inequalities and removal of poverty. He did yeoman's service in the fields in India.

Apart from the Permanent Representative, the celebrations are being organized by Kalpana Saroj Foundation and the Foundation for Human Horizon.

On April 13, the Ambedkar picture at the Indian Mission would be garlanded. On the occasion, a seminar would be organized on `Fighting inequalities, Implementable Ideals.'

In a release to mark the occasion, the UN pointed out that Dr Ambedkar had ushered in awareness among millions of backward classes people in India. He dedicated his life to social justice and equality among people. The press release noted the UN General Assembly resolution for a classless society by 2030.

Ambedkar was born at Ambewadi in Ratnagiri disrict in Maharashtra on April 14, 1891. He was the first Minister for Law in independent India. During the freedom struggle, he was Dalit leader, anthropologist, historian, leading speaker, economist, editor, revolutionary and revivalist of Buddhism.

He was aswarded Bharat Ratna posthumously in 1990.
