AP HC warns against artificial ripening of fruits

AS the mango season is ensuing, the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Monday once again recalled the dangers of fructifying fruits by dangerous methods such as using carbide chemical, saying the court was afraid of buying fruits in the market. The court was speaking on a petition about artificial ripening of fruits. It directed the two Telugu governments of setting up ethylene-based plants for the fructification of fruits instead of allowing the fruiterers to use carbide and other dangerous chemicals for the fruition process. The Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments expressed their willingness to set up ethylene plants for the purpose. In a previous case, the court described traders who use chemicals to ripen fruits as more dangerous than terrorists. In the case of carbide and other chemicals, the skin of the fruits ripen faster than the edible part inside. The chemical content on the fruit skin is dangerous to health.
