Threat of `Dirty Bomb' by ISIS near-reality

Sat, Apr 02, 2016, 03:15 PM
The threat of `dirty bomb` by Islamic forces appears a reality.

The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) had occupied Mosul University 2 years ago. After taking over the lab, the ISIS has deployed scientists who are working on the `dirty bomb.'

In July 2014, Iraq Ambassador to the United Nations, Mohammad Ali Alhakim, had announced that terrorist groups had seized nearly 40 kg of uranium compounds from Mosul University. Although the International Atoic Energy Agency had reassured the public that the uranium was of low grade and did not represent a security risk, the threat of the material with ISIS reamained.

Recently, the chief of the explosives division of Iraq, Gen Hatem Magsosi, had said that the Mosul University Lab was the testing lab for the Dayush (ISIS).

In the lab, the ISIS was also testing chemical weapons, peroxide-based bombs, suicide vests and so on. The explosives and other materials used in Paris and Belgium incidents were reportedly made in the lab.

The Mosul munitions were very well known to western agencies. They carried out recently air raids on the university.
