Rocket fire raises smoke over Afghan Parliament

Mon, Mar 28, 2016, 02:35 PM
Three rockets were fired at the Afghanistan Parliament building while a session was going on there on Monday morning, but the building as such was safe. The building built by the Indians was opened in 2015.

The rocket fire coincided with the officials going inside and briefing the lawmakers.

While the lawmakers said there were no casulaties, a Taliban spokesman claimed there were many casualties. The Afghan Taliban were behind the attack. Taliban not only claim attacks but also heavy casulaty figures always.

TV pictures showed thin smoke billowing from behind the dome of the parliament building, which appears intact.

The Afghans follow jirga system of tribal council. Parliament is a modern idea, opposed by atavistic Islamic forces. So Parliament building is constantly under attack. In June 2015, six gunmen and a suicide bomber had similarly attacked parliament when the House was in session.
