SC rules Higher Education assets belong to both Telugu States

The Supreme Court on Friday rejected the argument of the Telangana government that it owned the assets and bank accounts of the Higher Education Department of the combined State. It ruled that the assets and bank accounts belonged to both the States. The Supreme Court struck down the Hyderabad High Court judgement in the case transfering all the assets to Telangana. At this stage the AP government approached the Supreme Court seeking a share of the combined State assets. The Supreme Court ruled that the assets and bank accounts belonged to both the States. It questioned how the combined State assets could belong to Telangana alone. The Congress-ruled United Progressive Alliance government had made all kinds of blunders in bifurcating the combined AP. The Congress government had put Special Status Category status in the AP Reorganisation Bill to get it passed by parliament. But in the Act that followed the Special Category Status was mysteriously removed. Taking advantage of the loopholes, the two governments are interpreting the provisions differently. The Supreme Court has clarified in regard to Higher Education. But there could be any number of such discrepancies.
