No meteorite strike in Vellore, says NASA

Wed, Feb 10, 2016, 06:28 PM
The meteorite strike incident at Bharatidasan University in Vellore in North Tamil Nadu was pooh-poohed by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration of the US.

Finding no plausible cause as leading to the sudden death of one person and injuries to several others, the Tamil Nadu police attributed the incident to a meteorite strike.

The NASA which went into the issue ruled out a metorite strike. it said the pictures of the site at Bharatidasan University did not reflect a meteorite strike. The pictures were more like an explosive substance buried there.

The New York Times, which reported the matter, said clearly the explosion was on the ground and not from outser space.

The Tamil Nadu police must have a relook into the incident. Was somebody or group sought to be protected for the person's killing?

A meteorite strike in Siberia in the recent past was accompanied by a deafening sound which left many people deaf in the area, and recorded by agencies. Bharatidasan, too, reported break of glasspanes but not shattering enough. If so, the small rock that was being shown as the meteorite should be sent to responsible agencies for scientific evidence.
