India to set up satellite monitoring station in Vietnam

Mon, Jan 25, 2016, 04:30 PM
India has decided to set up a satellite tracking-cum-imaging centre in South Vietnam for keeping an eye from the space on China. Once the satellite station is set up, the entire troubled South China Sea area will be within the range of Indian satellites.

This apart the satellite station will strengthen Indo-Vietnamese relations. Comunications, agriculture and tourism links with Vietnam will also be increased.

Vietnam has its problems with giant China on the troubled South China Sea. Marine security experts of India and Vietnam say the station would be beneficial to both the countries.

The Indian Space Research Organisation will provide the expertise for setting up the $23 million monitoring station. The data collected from the station will be shared by Indian security agencies.

China is setting up artificial islands in the South China Sea so as to claim its naval sovereignty over the entire sea.
