Masood Azhar fully behind Pathankot terror: Musharraf

Tue, Jan 19, 2016, 12:31 PM
Former Pakistan President Gen. Pervez Musharraf has said Jaishe Muhammad chief Maulana Masood Azhar masterminded the Pathankot airbase terror attack.

At the same time, Gen Musharraf ruled out the role of the Pakistani Army or the Inter-Services Intelligence agency in the terror attack.

In an interview to CNN-IBN TV channel, the former Pakistan President said his country's Army was committed to cordial relations with India.

He went on: "After trying to assassinate me, Masood is not able to freely roam in Pakistan. Even so, he (Azhar) had managed to mastermind the Pathankot terror attack. "

Gen. Musharraf also criticised Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not being sincere about talks with Pakistan.

Even as things are hotting up for Islamabad following the Pathankot terror attack, Gen. Musharraf pointing fingers at Jaishe Muhammad and absolving the Army and ISI of any role in the terror attack has to be taken with not a pinch but a bag of salt. Musharraf is a megalomaniac who thinks big of his and Pakistan's capabilities. His oblique reference to Jaishe is to settle personal scores with Masood Azhar.

When things are going against them, Pakistan plays this kind of trick as though there are several layers in power structure in Islamabad so you can't really blame any entity such as the Army or the ISI or, for that matter, Jaishe Muhammad for Pathankot-like terror acts.

India should reserve the right to react for Pathankot and make Pakistan go into a spin so that permannet pack of lies of Islamabad is exposed.
