Fri, Jan 01, 2016, 06:13 PM
Facebook's free internet is going to kill Digital India, Nandan Nilekani, the man behind Unique Identification Number and Aadhar Card, has said.

Nilekani has alleged Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg was putting roadblocks to internet freedom and Digital India.

He pointed out that Facebook was spending crores of rupees to influence the people to accept Facebook's `free internet' proposal. By offering free internet, the social network medium was trying to capture the market and hit at other internet agencies so that it would achieve monopoly, the tech wizard added.

Facebook was trying to influence its 130 million users in the country to support free internet and send their proposals in this regard to TRAI, Nilekani said. If Free Basics were to take shape, Digital India was as good as dead. If this were to happen, then Prime Minister Narendra Modi's dream of digital services to all people would never take off, he added.
