Indian faces death by firing squad in Dubai for killing wife

A Mumbai youth, Atif Popire, who brutally killed his wife Basra, has been denied mercy by the highest court in Dubai. Atif and Mini (Basra) fell in love while they were studying in a Matunga college. They then got married in 2008 and Mini changed her name to Basra in keeping with the inter-religious marriage. Soon Atif got a job as Manager in a Dubai shop. Basra followed him 2 years later. Atif soon brutally killed his unsuspecting wife. Faced now with the prospect of dying before a firing squad, Atif is left with only one option. He has to plead with the family of the girl he had killed and ask for mercy. Mini's mother, Uma Dhananjayan, has said nobody had approached her regading the mercy plea. She was in no case going to pardon Atif who had killed her daughter who believed her love would last forever.
