Yuvraj Singh swears by dressing room support

Fri, Dec 25, 2015, 01:15 PM
Cricketer Yuvraj Singh, who has been included in the Indian team for the T20 World Cup in India next year, has appealed to the dressing room to help him give a better performance. If he just has the support of the dressing room, he would hit the legendary sixes that he is known for. Otherwise his batting would be at sixes and sevens.

In an interview with `The Telegraph', Yuvraj, popularly known as Yuvi, said he expected the full support of his team-mates for his batting.

Indian cricket's dressing room quarrels are notorious. Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has made no secret of the fact often. As is the case with Indian cricket in general, everything is concealed in the dressing room.

Indian cricket has come to be notorious for corruption and match fixing. So much so, the gentleman's game has been dubbed by a prominent Hindi TV channel `Satta cricket.' Regardless cricket goes on as if everything's hunky dory.

The dressing room is, on the other hand, a place for cricketers' quarrels. One opening batsman feigned slight ill-health to come down the order sending a top-order batsman to face Australian quickies who were at their wicket-taking best. The top-order batsman soon fell to the quickies and returned to the dressing room to give a piece of his mind. Dhoni was to refer to the dressing-room quarrels as the reason for India's poor display in Australia in the last series. In fact, Dhoni may have sacrificed his Test captaincy on this very ground.

So, Yuvi's appeal is a matter of serious concern and interest for the cricket-loving public in India, where cricket is a religion, at least that is what the die hard fans make it out to be.

Whether Yuvi will last in the final 11 is not known. But if he is, Yuvi promises a great fare to the cricketing public.

Another senior cricketer Ashish Nehra has also been incuded in the team. Depending on the pitch and other conditions, he also may figure prominently in the playing 11.
