US Lightweight Combat Ship dragged back to dry dock in 20 days

Wed, Dec 16, 2015, 12:15 PM
The American Light Combat Ship project has run into rough weather. The first Light Combat Ship, USS Milwaukee, had to be dragged back to dry dock in Virginia within 20 days of its launch, as the ship became standstill off the sea.

An investment of $360 million (Rs.2,400 crore) had been made for the project.

The US Senate Armed Services Committee had suggested repairs to the Light Combat Ship. Committee Chairman John McCain has ordered a probe into the ship's inertia.

Light combat craft apparently pose problems. In India the prestigious Light Combat Aircraft project had been very long in the making.

However, today, India’s LCA, Tejas, is the smallest and lightest Multi-Role Supersonic Fighter Aircraft. This single engine, Compound-Delta-Wing, Tailless Aircraft was designed and developed by ADA with HAL as the principal partner. Various agencies such as DRDO, CSIR, BEL, DGAQA, IAF & IN have put in their efforts to meet diverse needs of the Indian Air Force (IAF) and Indian Navy (IN).
