Alert school bus driver averts accident near Ongole, 40 students escape unhurt

Hyderabad, Nov 30: A major road accident was averted and the lives of 40 school students were save by an alert bus driver near Ongole. The 56-year-old school bus driver of a private school avoided a head-on collision when the driver of a lorry suddenly took a U-turn at Thuravaganta village near Ongole on the Chennai-Kolkata highway early this morning. Thus saving the lives of 40 students. In the mishap, the bus driver, identified as Mallaiah, sustained serious injuries. He received the injuries as he swerved the bus to the extreme left and couldn't stop the bus from plunging into a road-side ditch, local police said. The students and the bus were going to a private school at Cloughpet. The bus driver is undergoing treatment at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences.
