Christian man, Hindu woman's marriage not valid: TN HC

Hyderabad, Nov 19: The Madurai bench of the Madras High Court today ruled that marriage between a Hindu woman and a Christian man will not be legally valid if either of them fail to convert. The court's bench, however, dismissed a Habeas Corpus petition filed by the woman's parents. Justices P R Shivakumar and V S Ravi said if the couple desired to solemnise their marriage as per Hindu custom, at least the man should have converted to Hinduism. Otherwise, the woman should have converted to Christianity if she wanted to marry as per Christian custom. Alternatively, the two could have registered their marriage under the Special Marriage Act, 1954. that is in case they preferred to follow their respective religions without conversion.
