Senators introduce H-1B Visa Reform Bill in US Senate

Thu, Nov 12, 2015, 10:35 AM
Hyderabad, Nov 12: In a significant development, two American Senators are said to have introduced a legislation in the US Senate demanding the reform of H-1B visa programme and also the need to modify the wage requirements.

They said there was an "abuse of the system" with reference to the scheme, which they feel has gone far away from its original intent.

The Senators who introduced the bill are Senators Chuck Grassley, Chairman of Senate Judiciary Committee, and Dick Durbin, Assistant Democratic Leader.

The bill was co-sponsored by Senators Bill Nelson, Richard Blumenthal, and Sherrod Brown.

If passed, the bill proposes to prohibit companies from hiring H-1B employees if they employ over 50 people and over 50 per cent of their staff are H-1B and L-1 visa holders.

This will drastically impact outsourcing companies, the Senators said.
