23 lakh apply for 368 peon jobs
Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), Sep 16: More than 23 lakh youth have applied for 368 peon posts in Uttar Pradesh and this indicates the rampant unemployment in the country. The number of the applications for the posts is nearly half the population of Lucknow, which is 45 lakhs. Two lakh applicants are graduates with degrees like BTech, BSc, MSc and MCom and 225 applicants are PhD degree holders. The state secretariat has given the notification for appointment of peons and the overwhelming response shocked the officials. The recruitment will be done through oral interviews and it may a take a couple of years to complete the process.
