AP tops in alcohol related accidents

Visakhapatnam, July 31: Andhra Pradesh has topped in the country with regard to the road accidents caused under the influence of alcohol and other sedative substances, according to National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB)- 2014 data. But police officials say that NCRB figures are flawed. Of the 7,108 cases in this category in the country, 1,630 cases were registered in the AP. Within the state, Vijayawada topped with 1,553 cases and Visakhapatnam takes the second spot with 36 cases. Police officials said that the figures would be much higher as many drunken driving cases were booked under IPC sections 304, 304A and 279. In 2014, Vizag police booked 10,115 drunken driving cases and collected Rs 98 lakh fine. In the last six months the police filed 9,100 cases and collected Rs 70 lakh fine
