Illiteracy is a cancer to any developing nation. Unfortunately for India it is a disease which ruins its strength. It is infact a curse to mankind.

Just look at people around you when you take a walk, when you commute in a bus, when you stand in a queue and even when you are in a public toilet. People with education tend to follow certain ethics and rules that are a must for the development of mankind. Literacy improves rational thinking and hence you see educated people walk on the footpaths, they don’t stand adamantly near the entrance of a bus, they tend to be a part of queues and they immediately flush after using the public toilet where as illiterates are on the opposite walk of the above said scenario. They know that they are inferior and they expect everybody around them to comply with their demands. Why?

They feel that since everyone around knows that they are incapable of certain things, they feel that it is their right to make the other sections do favors for them. The word ‘help’ is no longer in their dictionary. It is their superior attitude (false) that irritates people. They are always nagging and life will be a hell if you enter into any sort of partnership with them. Why is it that illiteracy and rational thinking are inter-related? I spent days to know the truth and at last I felt satisfied after a detailed analysis. Education is not about attaining degrees, it is about social relations. You attend school and there you are among a class of fifty. You talk with everyone, learn the attitudes, and learn about social functioning apart from what your teachers teach you there. This social apparatus refines and defines a person. But in case of illiterates this option is totally absent and they tend to become social outlaws. Hence our nation, and I speak about nation as a family, is like a family where the husband is an illiterate and the wife an educated lady, the kids are undergoing education and are at all times confused about who to listen to. In our nation, illiterates form a patriarchal dominance because of their huge numbers, the literates are few and are always dominated just like the wife and the role of future generations in shaping our country is similar to that of the kids who are confused right from their growing years.

What needs to be done is this – take a stand that you will reform the nation by educating at least a hand few. If that is an impossible task then take under your tutelage the kids and make their confusion go away. Let the future generations enjoy the privilege of an educated country because an educated community means an intelligent country. The future is in our hands.

Note: I am not averse to illiterates but the love for my country to see it in all its glory made me attain neutrality to the illiterate community coz it is them who are hindering all progress. And mind you, even people who are literates but have a poor vision for growth are in reality illiterates while illiterates who pave way for the betterment of the society are literates of the highest order.
