Shrimp (Prawn) Biryani


1.Shrimp 1/2 lb
2.Oil 1 tbsp
3.Green cardamom 2
4.Cloves 2
5.Bay leaf 1
6.Cinnamon stick 1 piece
7.Ginger,garlic and green chillies 2 tbsp
8.Fried onions 1/2 cup
9.Tomatoes 2 medium chopped
10.Salt to taste
11.Red chilli powder to taste
12.Mint leaves handful chopped
13.Coconut milk 2 cups
14.Basmati rice 1 cup washed and soaked
15.Butter 1 tbsp


1. Heat Oil in a pressure cooker.
2.Add Cinnamon Stick, Bay Leaf, Green Cardamom and Cloves and cook for 30 seconds.
3.Add Ginger/Garlic/Green Chili paste and saute for 30 seconds.
4.Add Fried Onion,Tomatoes and Shrimp.Mix well.
5.Add Red Chili Powder, Salt and Mint Leaves,mix well.
6.Add Coconut Milk and washed Rice,give it a stir.
7.Cover, pressure cook for 1 whistle and switch off stove. Allow pressure to go down by itself.
8. Drizzle Clarified Butter (ghee) over the top, cover and let it rest for a few minutes before serving.Serve hot.
