Matar (Matra) Chaat


1.Matar 1 cup
2.Salt to taste
3.Black salt 1 tbsp
4.Black pepper 1/4 tbsp
5.Sugar 1/4 tbsp
6.Cumin seeds 1 tbsp
7.Coriander 1 tbsp
8.Ginger finely chopped 2 tbsp
9.Green chillies 2 finely chopped
10.Tamarind pulp 2 tbsp
11.Lemon juice 1 tbsp


1.Wash and soak matar in about 3 cups of water overnight.
2.Dry roast the cumin seeds and coriander until they are brown and start
smelling, roast them separately. Let it cool and grind then powder
3.In pressure cooker add matar with 2-1/2 cups of water, salt, ginger and green chili cook on medium high heat.
4.As pressure cooker starts steaming turn the heat down to medium and cook for about 8-9 minutes.Cook till soft.
5.Add all the spices,salt and pepper to your taste.Mix it well.Cook till the gravy consistency thickens.Serve hot.
