Vijayawada, 26th March, 2022: Doctors of Kamineni Hospitals, Vijayawada, has been able to successfully treat a 45-year-old diabetic and hypertensive patient, who was diagnosed with hepatic adenoma in the left lobe of the liver.

Hepatic adenoma is an extremely rare liver tumour which may turn in to malignant tumour. It is also known as hepatocellular adenoma or liver cell adenoma.  It most often affects women, and has been linked to the use of birth control pills. Hepatic adenoma doesn’t often show symptoms. Sometimes it shows mild symptoms though, such as pain, nausea, or a full feeling.

This typically occurs when the tumor is large enough to exert pressure on neighbouring organs and tissues.

The patient, Mr. Ramanjaneyulu, resident of Vijayawada, was brought to Kamineni Hospitals, Vijayawada, for a routine health check-up. However, on ultrasound imaging of the abdomen, he was seen to be suffering from hepatic adenoma of size 7.5x7x5.6 centimetres in the left lobe of the liver. Hepatic adenoma of this size holds the potential to turn malignant.

Accordingly, he was advised surgery. Being a major surgery he was sent for cardiac evaluation and underwent angiography due to positive TMT. However, the cardiologist advised to proceed for surgery with risk involved.

“The treatment has gone well. I appreciate the friendly approach of the doctors towards me. In the initial phase of surgery, they kept me informed about the whole procedure which helped me balance my mental state. Overall, it has been a very good experience with doctors at Kamineni Hospitals,” said Mr. Ramanjaneyulu Garu.

“Triphasic CT abdomen was done before surgery for better characterization of lesion and vascular anomalies which revealed replaced left hepatic artery. He underwent left hepatectomy with minimal blood loss,” said “Dr. Rajasekhar Perumalla, Director & Sr. Consultant of Hepatobiliary Surgery and Dr. Velineni Sri Venkata Pavaneswar, Consultant Surgical Gastroenterologist.

“Post-surgery, the recovery has been uneventful. The nephrologist and the physician monitored the patient’s renal and glycaemic status. Biopsy confirmed it to be hepatic adenoma,” added Dr. Rajasekhar Perumalla.
