Adding to this, Dr. T. Srinivasa Rao, Consultant Critical Care, Manipal Hospital - Vijayawada said, when the patient visited us, he was in heart failure with severe leaking (regurgitation) Aortic valve. We had to immediately put him on ventilator as he was hemodynamically unstable and was being given inotropes to keep the heart functioning, with the help of a planned TAVR procedure; we were able to save him. Post procedure, the patient’s heart condition improved and is off the ventilator.”

Speaking at the press meet Dr. N. Murali Krishna, Interventional Senior Cardiologist - Manipal Hospital, Vijayawada said, “The patient has undergone an open-heart surgery in 2008 during which a bio-prosthetic valve was inserted. The patient was unfit for any surgical procedure as he was in a shock state. The only way to save the patient was to perform TAVR surgery where we had to insert a valve in the already existing bio-prosthetic valve from his previous operation in 2008.  This rare operation was performed successfully and the patient is back to being healthy.”

Dr. Sudhakar Kantipudi, Hospital Director - Manipal Hospital, Vijayawada, said, “Manipal Hospital strives hard to make sure that the people of Andhra Pradesh have access to all kinds of treatment on par with international standards and the present case is a testimony to it. I would like to appreciate the proactive-ness shown by the Critical Care and Cardiology departments to make sure that the patient is back to being healthy from a near fatal situation. I would like to congratulate the doctors and staff for successfully completing the surgery and breathing life back into the 87-year-old patient”
