Krishna river that flows into Bay of Bengal in Krishna district in Andhra Pradesh (AP) makes an epic journey right from the place of its birth in Mahabaleshwar to Hamsaladeevi. The river's main course is through AP, where it has contributed to rich culture and history of the place. Goddess Kanaka Durga temple on Indrakeeladri hills, through which the river passes, is the most prominent landmark in the state. It is here that Prakasam Barrage has been built to collect the waters and let it fertilise lakhs of acres of crops.
