A prominent priest at Vijyawada Goddess Durga temple, explained the significance of having holy dip in Krishna river today that is Sravana Pournami. It is the day on which young boys are initiated into vedic studies, through Upanayanam and the vedas are taught to them, he said. Usually Krishna Pushkarams come before or after Sravana Pournami, once in every 12 years. Having a Pushkar bath is in itself a purifying act and that too on a full moon day is an added blessing, he said.
