Inspired by Amma and Anna canteens in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka too has launched subsidised canteens for the poor. State minister Food and Public Distribution U.T. Khader said that the aim was to see that no one in the state goes hungry. Initially the cheap canteens will be opened on the roadsides, in urban areas, he said. The canteens will provide hygienic food for daily wagers and roadside dwellers.
