Pinarayi Vijayan took oath as Chief Minister of Kerala, in Malayalam, at Trivandrum. A 19-member cabinet also took oath today along with him. Prominent Left party leaders attended the ceremony. Earlier, the Communist Party of India (Marxists), CPM high command, took the decision to make Vijayan as the chief minister, at a state level meeting. Vijayan started his political career as a SFI worker and rose to become State Secretary of CPM.
