The Centre has decided to hike the IIT fees from Rs 90,000 to 2 lakh per annum. The new fee structure will come into effect from next academic year. The Mumbai IIT Director Devang Khakhar sub-committee said that IITs are incurring Rs 3.5 lakh on each student per annum. The panel recommended for waiving fees for students whose income is lower than Rs 1 lakh per annum and to collect two-third fees from students whose annual income is less than Rs 5 lakh. However, there is mixed reactions over the hike in the fee structure.
