Phanigirigutta, in Nalgonda district, had been a famous Buddist centre during the second century B.C. It was the capital of later kings like the Ishvakus, who ruled for 18 years over this place. Such a historical place is now lying in ruins, totally neglected by modern governments. There are many relics of Buddist era in the place that need to be preserved. Villagers here have urged the government to restore Phanigirigutta to it's past glory.
