As the onion price in the market has fallen to Rs. 10 per kilo, farmers, who have invested huge sums in the crop, deplored that they were losing. The price of onion had reached Rs. 80 per kilo in last year, when the government imported it from outside and sold it at subsidised rates. Seeing that the rate was good, farmers invested a lot in the crop. But with excess produce in the market, the demand fell, bringing down the prices. Farmers have urged the government to give them a remunerative price and buy the product.
