The universities are turning in to the hubs of suicides and the suicide of a 26-year-old PhD scholar has triggered nationwide outrage. Rohith Vemula of the University of Hyderabad was one of the five suspended scholars who were suspended in August over allegedly beating up an ABVP leader. Students allege that Rohith, who belonged to the Dalit community, faced discrimination from the university administration. Students blame the Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya for writing a misleading letter to the education ministry.
