Nearly 50 blue whales and some dolphins were washed ashore, since Monday evening, at Tuticorin beach in Tamil Nadu. The villagers somehow tried to push them back in to the sea, but they swept back on to the coast, the officials said. By Tuesday morning, about 50 small blue whales were washed ashore in Tiruchendur division, covering a stretch of 16 km from Allanthalai to Kallamozhi coastal hamlets. Jaiyalal Jaiswal, director of Oceanography Institute said that this is because of tidal cycles.
