Chintapalli in Khammam district was once a haven to Siberian migratory birds that came here in December and left in July, after building nests and breeding their young ones. They made the huge tamarind trees in the village their homes and fed on the fish in the nearby pond. But this century-long legacy is coming to a close, thanks to the drought conditions as well as the negligence of villagers. The pond is dry and people are cutting down the trees that shelter the birds.
