The USS Zumwalt, largest destroyer ever built for the US Navy, carefully navigated the Kennebec River before hitting open ocean for undergoing sea trials. The 15,000-tonne USS Zumwalt has electric propulsion, new radar and sonar, powerful missiles and guns, and a stealthy design to reduce its radar signature. The Zumwalt, the first of three ships in the class, will cost at least $4.4 billion. The ship is named for Admiral Elmo Zumwalt, a decorated Naval officer who died in 2000.
