Prices of essential commodities have skyrocketed in Chennai due to heavy rains and floods. Greedy businessmen were selling a half-litre milk pocket anywhere between Rs 50 to 100 depending on the localities. Traders are demanding thousands of rupees in advance from consumers to provide drinking water cans to their homes. Anna Nagar, Saidapet, Red Hills, Tambaram, Ashok Nagar, Koyambedu, T Nagar, Ramapuram, Adayar are still in flood waters. People are visiting relief camps to get food and drinking water. About 80 per cent of Chennai city has no power.
