The storage of water in Prakasham Barrage in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh has reached an all time low. While normally at this time the water level is 12 ft in the barrage, it is just 10.2 ft. This is because of lack of rains in the monsoon season in the catchment areas. Ironically, heavy rains are causing floods and crops have been destroyed in the ever-dry Rayalaseema region, while the remaining districts are facing drought conditions.
