Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba beat its own $9.3-billion sales record set during last year?s 24-hour shopping marathon. This year, on November 11, the record was cracked just halfway through the event. Orders were placed for 37,000 health products, 2.2 lakh Xiaomi smartphones, 3.8 lakh boxes of Durex condoms and nearly the same number of mobile chargers. With increasing online sales, major retail stores like Dalian Wanda, Parkson, and Marks & Spencer shut down at least 25 stores in China by June 2015.
