Devotees perform special prayers to scorpions on the day of Nagula Chavithi festival at Kandukuru village in Yadgir district in Karnataka. They climb Kondamavulagutta in the village and perform rituals to goddess Konda Maheshwari. Devotees believe that offering prayers to scorpions will protect them from poisonous insects throughout the year. Surprisingly, devotees including young and old will hold scorpions with their hands which they find beneath rocks on the hills on this day only.
