Their day begins at 2 am. Their duty is to wake others through beating of drums, to indicate the time of 'Sahar', a ritual during Ramzan. These are the Fakirs of the old city in Hyderabad. Even in the days of alarm clocks and mobiles, they go about their traditional trade, without grumbling. Up till 4 am they stroll around in the 'mohallas', waking up their brothers. This tradition may end with them, they say.
