The Reserve Bank of India extended the deadline for exchanging pre-2005 currency notes of various denominations, including Rs 500 and Rs 1,000, by six months till December 31, 2015. The earlier deadline will expire on June 30. To curb circulation of fake and black money, the RBI decided to withdraw all currency notes issued prior to 2005. It has appealed to public to exchange their pre-2005 currency notes till December 31.
