Over 100 fishermen and police battled for several hours in an attempt to save a beached female whale shark in Ecuador. The stranded shark was spotted by local fishermen after it got trapped when the tied receded. The nine meter long, 16 tonne whale shark is being kept wet as a protection from scorching sun for many hours. Fishermen used boats and ropes to try drag him to the sea. The shark however, died after six hours because fishermen were unable to draw it into the ocean.
