The Afghans marked their World Cup debut by restricting Bangladesh to 267 all out. But crumbled with the bat and their chaotic start led to a defeat against Afghanistan. Spearheaded by Captain Mashrafe Mortaza (3/20) it became hard for Afghanistan to handle Bangladesh Bowling on a flat batting pitch. They were dismissed for 162 with more than seven overs left. Afghanistan captain Mohammad Nabi top-scored with 44 runs. The play of the match was when Bangladesh's Rubel Hossain took an outstanding catch at the long-boundary to dismiss Nawroz Mangal for 27.
