E-commerce companies are said to have incurred losses of around Rs. 1,000 crore due to heavy discounting being offered by them recently. PwC has reported that this model is not feasible in the long run, a said. Out of a total of 1,005 people surveyed as part of the PwC study, half the respondents said they preffered to shop online due to better deals and discounts offered by these retailers. The report also says that though the discounting will continue for some more months, e-tailers are going beyond discounts to acquire customers and build loyalty among them.
