Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse has pardoned the death sentence of five Indian fishermen who have been held in Sri Lanka for their alleged role in smuggling of drugs. The government has released the fishermen and handed them over to Indian officials in Colombo. Earlier, PM Modi had talked to Sri Lankan President asking him o transfer the fishermen into Indian jails. India has been maintaining from the very beginning that the fishermen are innocent.
