Kartheeka Masam is a very significant period in Hundu culture and it is treated as one of the most powerful auspicious periods in the year. During this month the women tend to get up very early in the morning and take a bath named after Karthika Masam and they visit a temple or pray at their homes and maintain strict religious principles. The significance of the Karthika Masam is that the worship of the lamps and it is a custom to leave the lamps in a river or a floating water during this period.
