Columbo High Court has issued death sentences to eight people including five Indian people of fishermen community. This was a 2011 case dealing with eight people, three of Sri Lankans and five of Indian nationals, who were nabbed by Srilankan navy for transporting heroin from India to Sri Lanka. Since then, they were in detention in Sri Lanka. DMK leader A Sarvanan faulted this move saying that this is a serious issue and the central government must intervene to save their lives.
