New Delhi, Jan 23: Union Information Technology Ministry has asked the country's major online classifieds websites, Quikr.com, to explain as to how an advertisement was uploaded on the site that reportedly offered a boy for sale for Rs. 5.

A Chennai-based man is said to have placed the advertisement. He is said to have posted the advertisement along with a photo of a boy under the caption 'Rahul for sale'.

The man offered the boy up for sale for the price Rs. 5.

The National Committee for the Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has taken objection to the advertisement and reportedly sent a complaint in December 2014 to the central government.

According to sources, the ministry's cyber-security section stated that the advertisement has since been removed.

Officials have initiated an investigation and Quikr is yet to comment on the issue.
