AP decides to supply uninturepted power

Vijayawada, May.19: Keeping in view of the drastic increase in temperatures and abnormal relative humidity conditions prevailing in the State due to excessive heat wave conditions , the State Govt. have geared up to meet any kind of exigency/ challenge to provide 100% interruption free power supply to the Consumers of the State. As part of this, the Govt has directed the AP Power Utilities to initiate all possible measures to meet the daily Grid demand and take-up restoration works consequent to any breakdowns/Outages on war footing basis, so as to cause least/negligible inconvenience to the consumers, said the  Minister for Energy, Govt. of AP ,  K. Kalavenkata Rao .

The  Minister for Energy who has reviewed the district wise power supply position and certain isolated incidents of tripping of EHT Lines which caused some  inconvenience to the consumers in North Coastal Districts of Srikakulam, Vizayanagaram, Vishakhapatnam and East Godavari, today with K. Vijayanand, Chairman & Managing Director of APTRANSCO & MD/APGENCO,  Nagarajaswamy, Director, Grid Operation   and Superintending Grid Operation  Bhaskar, has  directed the officials of APDISCOMs to review the power supply position on daily basis and take corrective measures wherever required and conduct Substation level / District level meetings with the local representatives.  Chief Minister,  N. Chandra Babu Naidu who is committed to provide uninterrupted power supply to the Consumers has directed  AP Power Utilities to prepare a contingency action plan to meet the unexpected increase in the  Grid demand due the prevalent conditions of heat wave, and strengthening of the system,  until completion of “Rohini Karthe” said  Kalavenkatarao.

 The Govt. is keen to take up segregation of 11kV Feeders in rural areas so as to provide 3 phase, 24X7 Power supply to the rural industrial units and commercial establishments which would boost the rural economy and provides local employment to the skilled/un-skilled manpower. During my recent visit to Delhi, in connection with Power Ministers’ conference, Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) which finances Electrification projects across the Country has approached us and  agreed  in principle to provide the Loan assistance for the feeder segregation program which is expected to cost around Rs 4000 Crs, revealed the  Minister.  

Vijayanand CMD/APTRANSCO has appraised  to the  Minister that on 18.05.2017 at 10:53Hrs, 220KV VSS – Penduthy line-2 tripped on temporary fault and subsequently 200KV VSS – Pendurthy line-1 got overloaded and tripped at 10:55Hrs. As a result 200KV VSS – Gajuwaka and 200KV VSS – Gangavaramport got overloaded and tripped immediately. It was reported that conductor snapped in 220KV VSS – Gangavaramport lines. Power was regulated to control line flows on 200KV VSS – Pendurthy lines. On account of above trippings power flow diverted through 220KV Kalpaka – Dairy farm-1 &2 lines which carried above 300MW against the limit of 180MW. All the above trippings happened within no time. In order to avoid further cascade tripping of 220KV & 400KV lines and Simhadri & Hinduja Generating stations, power was regulated at Garividi, Tekkali, Pendurthy, Gajuwaka 220KV Sub-Stations. Lines wing of Vizag attended and restored 220KV Upper Sileru – Pendurthy line and 220KV VSS – Gangavaramport lines by 23:00Hrs on 18.05.2017. AP is meeting energy of around 173MU. There is an increase in demand in previous 10days against last year due to high temperature prevailing in the state and yesterday due to the EHT Line trippings there is an unmet demand to the extent of 1.7 MU.

While participating in the discussion through tele-con, the Principal Secretary, Energy, I&I CRDA GoAP  Ajay Jain has appraised the  Minister that, the state has the available  capacity  to the extent of meeting a daily average demand of 190 MU, and the isolated trippings have occurred due to  increase in the sag of the Lines due to excessive temperatures and immediate action has been taken to restore the system to the normalcy.

K. Ranganatham, Advisor Energy Dept,  M. M. Nayak, CMD/APEPDCL and  H.Y. Dora CMD/APSPDCL have also participated in the review meeting with the Minister through tele-con.
