A rare moment that lifted the spirits of 1.3 billion Indian’s back home who were glued to their TV sets and smartphones, cheering and agonizing over every point in the fascinating women single’s final. The final was an epic battle that lasted an hour and 22 minutes and saw the momentum swing both ways before the Spaniard prevailed.

Sindhu has won the Silver but” she gave us several golden moments”. It was a contest that some feared would be one-sided but turned out to be quite a see-saw battle. A young 21-year-old Indian woman showed the way to millions back home, giving them pride and belief that hard work could take them to the top of the world.
